Don’t Let The Negative Chatters Weigh You Down

Don’t Let The Negative Chatters Weigh You Down

1415137131874I got the inspiration for this post from my husband.

He is an ‘addictive sketcher’ and in his latest video, he was talking about how not to let the negative comments people make about your sketches  or drawings weigh you down.

As I watched it, it came to me that it actually applies to everything in life.

As a mompreneur who has refused to give up or give in, I’ve had my own doses of negative chatters.

And I’m pretty sure that if you have been in this game for a while, you have as well!

From the people who think that you should just go and get a job and forget about all this ‘nonsense’ to the people who think that a responsible mum should just sit at home, cook, clean, look after her children and family…and do nothing else!

…Or comments from people who think that you love money too much and that money is the root of all evil.

Or maybe you’ve even been at this for years and it’s still not working and you are getting comments like ‘is this worth it’?

If you’ve been having that, you are not alone 🙂

Here are some tips on how to handle such comments:

1. Don’t take it personally – seriously, other people’s comments have nothing to do with you. It’s just their opinion.

2. Don’t debate or argue – there’s really no point in debating with people who have negative comments about your business. It’s just an energy drain that you don’t need.

3. Remain calm –  don’t get all defensive, it’s your dream, your business, not theirs and you don’t need to prove anything to the such people.  Reserve that energy for positive things that will move you and your business forward.

4.  the topic quickly – rather than dwell on the negative comment and let it sink in and haunt you, change the topic of the conversation.

5. Take responsibility for your reaction – you can’t control the negative comments that people make but you can control your perception of it. You can make something good out of the situation. This one is quite tough but when you cultivate that habit, it will become easier.

6. Don’t reciprocate negativity – rise above it and respond with kindness.

7. Check it out – I add this because sometimes a ‘negative comment’ might actually be some good feedback that can actually help you move forward. So before you discard it, check it to see if it has any good in it.

8. Remember your BIG why – why did you start your business in the first place? Was it for your kids….so you can have enough flexibility to work around them?

Well…for me, that’s why I started my business and that’s what keeps me going whenever I get the negative chatters.

Over to you!
